I would like to make an additional comment on the Roman Numerals that can be found on many of the 1864 Arch Bridge base blocks. These are very similar to the markings on the Morrison Run arched bridge in Warren County, PA. Knowing that Roman numbers are scarce on 19th century stone structures in America, a determination can be made that some of the stone masons that worked on the Warren bridge also worked on the Big Shanty bridge.
