Starting from the bottom area of Big Shanty Hill on the Railroad grade line, there are at least eight stone culverts of various sizes along the line to Lafayette, PA. The only arched style culvert bridge is the 1864 Arch Bridge, the main topic of this story, located about halfway up the grade from Big Shanty to Lafayette. It would be great if the 1864 Arch Bridge had a bridge plate, but it doesn’t, only the keystone block with the year 1864 carved on it. It may be that at the time, the workmanship on the Erie line Morrison Run culvert bridge plate was considered sufficient information for all of the Erie branch railroad areas.

One culvert bridge is located where the Bear Run creek runs under the railroad grade. Its structure is a flat stone alignment with two openings.

Continuing up the grade, you will find 3 more culverts of smaller design. Some are starting to show age deterioration due to the forest reclaiming itself. There are at least 2 more up the grade, past the 1864 Arch Bridge with one taking on the likeness of the Bear Run culvert.
