Mein Doctor

by Sadie Nannen, 1976, Grandma Sadie’s Poems

Mid the lovely Alleghenies
Close to the river’s shore
Lives a charming little Doctor
With his wife, and children four.

He’s a very nice Paisano
With dimples and cleft chin
With silver at the temples
And eyes as black as sin.

No matter what your illness
He will try to save your life
And not only on the golf course
Does he make a tricky slice.

He will shift all of your innards
Cut out the bad – and then
With deft and nimble fingers
Will stitch you back again.

He’s one of the nicest people
That on this earth has trod,
And works in close communion
With a person known as God.

I’m glad that he’s my doctor
And until my life shall end,
I shall always be most grateful
That I had him for a friend.
